Midterm #8

This is my headshot that is on the BC Athletics website http://www.bceagles.com/, that I edited in GIMP.  I wanted to edit this photo since I did not like how orange I looked in the original.  I used the smudge tool on both my face and my hair to achieve the desired look of more of an even color and texture to my hair and face. It is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. For details, visit the immersive BC portal at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc

This is a photo of Beyonce, that I edited in GIMP. I first took a square logo and cropped it into a circle. I then resized my image then resized the logo to fit well over the eyes in the picture. Then I added a black banner at the bottom by choosing the rectangular tool then fill with FG color, and added three different captions of different text font, size, and color. It is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. Midterm #4

This is a greeting card I made on Cloud Party for Midterm #4.  First I went into cloud party and took a picture of my avatar using the camera feature.  I screen shotted that picture and then brought that picture into GIMP adding the text.  It is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. Silver Dollar in GIMP, Class 6

Here is the Screen shot of my silver dollar I made in GIMP.  It was a lot more difficult to make in GIMP than it was to make in Word.

Silver Dollar Class 6, Word

Here is a silver dollar that I created in Word.  I first used the auto shapes to make a circle and then used a gradient fill to appear like a coin.  Then I used the word art tool to ass "LIBERTY.  Next I used the free form tool in the drawing tool box to create the shape of Susan B Anthony's head.  After I drew the head I added the "In God we trust" and the "1922" text.  Finally, I added my initials to the coin in gimp.  Below are some progress shots:

Class 6 Silver Dollar

This is a screen shot of the silver dollar I made in MS Word.  I first drew a circle with the drawing tool and then I added text and made it rotate.  Finally I added the star in the middle of the dollar and filled it gray and a solid black outline.

Class 5, Assignment 1

This is an image of the  Immersive Education Summit Piktochart I made for assignment 1 for class 5.  I started with basic research of the summit, who will be the key note speakers, what the summit is about, what is included in the summit and who the audience of the summit it.  The next summit is going to be in Colorado and the last summit was here in Boston.  Picktochart is a fun and simple way to turn information into beautiful graphics.  Below are some screen shots of the process of making this picktochart:

Midterm #10

This is a picture of the house I made in word for midterm #10.  Like the course diagram midterm, I again used the drawing tool in Microsoft Word.  I used a triangle, oval, rectangles, sun and even some free form shapes to create this. I filled the roof in with the "parchment" fill effect and the house with the "wood" fill effect.  I then added 5 windows and filled them in with a pale yellow, I also had to remember to change the outline from a default blue to a black.  I then added a doorknob to the door and a sun, I added text to the sun and included my name and midterm 10.   After I created the house, I tried some freestlye techniques to create some grass and a cloud.  Below are screenshots of my progress. Midterm #9

This is a picture of the course diagram I made using the drawing feature in Microsoft Word.  I first drew a rectangle and put my name, course and school information it it.  I then made the other shapes and drew lines to connect them.  I used the fill effect to change each of the shapes color in the inside as well as the line to outline the shapes.  The cool thing about Microsoft Drawing Tool is that you can customize everything and make it your own through fill effects and lines.  There are some screen shots showing my progress in making the diagram below.   It is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. Class 5, Roll Call #2

Class 5, roll call #2

Class 5, Texture Mapping

For this in- class activity, we were assigned to explore texture mapping within the 3-D enviornment.

This is an example of both flat shaded and texture mapping in cloud party.  As you can see the flat shading would be the wall and texture mapping includes the other images in the screen shot.
The wall is a good example of flat shading.
This screenshot includes a lot of texture mapping.
An example of both texture mapping as well as flat shading in this screenshot.

A lot of flat shading in this screenshot.
Mostly flat shading in this screenshot.

As you can see, a virtual world includes both flat shading and texture mapping and without one or the other it would appear drastically different.

Class 5, Texture Maps

This is an image of two dimensional pictures of army tanks.  The first image is a shaded and colored one and the second one is a texture map image and that's why it has more detail to it and appears more realistic.  In the second image it has more life-like color and details.

Class 5, Roll Call #1

Attendance for tonight

Class 4, Assignment 4

Class 4, Assignment 3

This is one of my favorite Immersive Education videos because it shows how students in a k-12 learning environment can benefit from virtual world learning. For example, students get a hands on learning experience about eco systems without having to travel to an actual pond. Through exploration of the pond scenario in the immersive simulated environment, students can develop a richer understanding of complex casual relationships in ecosystems.

I like this video because it is another example of how k-12 teachers can use immersive education to help develop the student's understanding of a topic through inquiry and investigation of the subject. Instead of just learning about the topic through the medium of a textbook, the students use problem solving skills for a hands on way of learning. The students are given a problem and they must use cognitive reasoning to find the answers themselves as opposed to being given the answer to them in a text book.

This was my favorite video by far out of all the videos I watched. While the other video gave great examples of different virtual worlds, this video really explained the advantages and how we can use immersive eduction to change the learning frontier all together. It explained that our generation has different stimuli and are exposed to a vast amount of technology compared to other generations and we should really take advantage of that. Instead of sitting passively in front of lectures, memorizing facts without content and reading textbooks, the way students are taught today should be hands on through immersive education in a virtual learning enviornment.

Midterm 6

Part 1:

Here is the Final Product with adding layers in GIMP

Here are some pictures of in the process:

Part 2:

I created the animated GIF on GIMP by using many layers and the rotation tool. First I used the text circle tool and then created a  transparent layer so it  could move behind the text layer.  I typed my name in the text circle and added 4 different layers, each time increasing the degree of rotation and then anchoring them to the previous layer to appear as if the image was animated.  It is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. For details, visit the immersive BC portal at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc

Here are some screeenshots of the process:

Midterm #5

Progressive .jpg

Interlacing .jpg

Here is an "action shot" of saving the file into .png and interlacing form.

For midterm 5 we were to save the image "Monster.jpg" from the course resources page, put our name on the images and then save and export the images into two different files of format, progressive and interlacing.  First I put my name in large text on the image using the text tool, then I used the export tool in gimp to save the images in desired formats.  To save the images in different formats I used the "Advanced Options" feature to check off either progressive or interlacing format.  This is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. For details, visit the immersive BC portal at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc.
